The following is an alert from Jubilee Campaign (jubileecampaign.org): Dear Friend: Earlier this week, two rush hour bomb blasts at a bus stop in the outskirts of that countrys federal capital, Abuja, killed over 70 travelers and wounded at least 164. President Goodluck Jonathan blamed Boko Haram terrorists for the carnage. Easter is a widely celebrated holiday in Nigeria and a five day weekend. Abuja empties during the holiday as federal workers return to visit their home states and families. This attack has been deemed the deadliest attack yet on Abuja in Boko Harams efforts to overthrow the democratically elected government and replace it with a Sharia government, and the attack is designed to strike fear into the heart of the country. In his most recently published diatribe of March 24, Boko Haram Commander Abubakar Shekua demanded that true followers of Allah attack and kill in Abuja, Lagos, and elsewhere. Shekua reiterated that his war was against the West including western education. Shekua declared that woman could be spared as booty. To stop this war the West must provide to President Goodluck Jonathan military and logistical support to contain and remove the threat posed by Boko Haram. To encourage support to victims, in early March in Nigeria Jubilee Campaign launched its U.N. Fair Campaign, and we have been writing to the United Nations and Western governments to setup a victims relief fund in Nigeria. We are also encouraging the Nigerian government to repatriate Nigerian refugees in Cameroon back to Nigeria. On the same day as the deadly bombing, Boko Haram insurgents abducted 243 female students from a government secondary school in Borno State after raiding the school. Thankfully two days later, around 80 of the abducted girls were rescued by a group of local hunters and soldiers pursuing the insurgents. Boko Haram has killed well over 2,000 people in the last six months alone. According to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees more than 17,000 northern Nigerians are seeking protection in neighboring Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. This mass violence in the north has left hundreds of thousands more displaced within the country. Many refugees and the displaced are left with nowhere to go and no money to get there as they fled leaving everything behind. Jubilee started the Refugee Rescue Fund to help the refugees and the displaced in their desperation. The funds assist with providing basic needs. Jubilee is working with a dependable local partner to build an apartment building for some of the displaced Christians at a project cost of $21,000.
