The following is an excerpt from something I recently sent to - TopicsExpress

The following is an excerpt from something I recently sent to family and a few of my closest friends. It speaks to where I am on the topic of Christmas. Maybe some of you will be interested, or even share in my sentiments. I was recently asked to prepare a wish list for Christmas. Producing such a wish list is not a pleasure for me. I recently reflected on why I feel this way. There are many reasons, among which include my frustration with the commercialization of Christmas, the loss focus on Jesus social teachings by many who profess the Christian faith, and my growing desire to lessen my consumption (for numerous reasons). So, as you consider giving to me this year, I would most appreciate not receiving items of material or monetary nature. I would like for you to consider investing an alternate amount of your personal energy/resources toward acts of care for others who need it more than I do. I feel sufficiently wealthy in matters of physical need, psychological health, emotional need, and personal care. Secondly, Id appreciate if you would reflect on your experience of giving out of care for others in need and consider what youd like to share with me about your experience. If any of you want to know of a couple donation recipients on my heart to support, please ask. Ill share more if asked. I wish you all a sense of gratitude and generosity this Christmas season. Many are in need. I pray that we seek to find ways to give, and to take action on what we find.
