The gasoline tax is on the gallon - not on the price - so I think - TopicsExpress

The gasoline tax is on the gallon - not on the price - so I think with the price down, people may drive more, use more gasoline, and therefore pay more tax; or better said, the government will get more money from the gas tax, while the people spend less money for each gallon they buy. So why does the government want to raise the gas tax? Make the gas more expensive and the people will use less, and the government will get, oh perhaps the same amount of money, or even less.
