The great legendary homeopath, Dr. Pareshnath Banerji established his famous charitable dispensary at Mihijam (now in the state of Jharkhand) in India in the year 1918. His method of treatment became extremely successful and thus soon it created the great demand among all sections of society throughout the country. He followed the philanthropic ideology starting from his uncle Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, who was also an amateur Homoeopath, which is still being followed in our centre. He established the the famous Mihijam Institute of Homoeopathy in 1920, the first Institute for scientifically teaching Homoeopathy. It is necessary to mention here that Dr. Pareshnath Banerji never took any money from any patient whether rich or poor, in the form of fees or for supplying medicines throughout his life. The number of patients since 1920 to 1930 increased to about 700 to 1000 per day coming from all over the county and also from abroad realising his ability to cure and his zealous devotion and sacrifice. He served the patients with the help of few assistants trained by him, when any other homoeopath, big or small, was able to attract only 5 or 6 patients a day, or even less, and they could not make Homoeopathy a reliable system to them. By this time, he made Homoeopathy known to about 10 million people (including his patients) of our country by serving about 3 million prescriptions. At that time, undivided India’s population was only about 330 million. The dignitaries like Dr. Rajendra Prasad, First President of India, Dr. S.P. Radhakrishnan, Former President of India, Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee, Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, Martyr Jatindra Nath Mukherjee, Maharaja of Nepal and many others were attracted by his healing powers and used Homoeopathy from him. This created a great awareness about Homoeopathy among the people of our country and it was only then that they started to consider Homoeopathy as a dependable system of medicine. Thus he was the founder of Homoeopathy in India.
