The greatest Puerto Rican Composer: Rafael Hernández - TopicsExpress

The greatest Puerto Rican Composer: Rafael Hernández (October 24, 1892 December 11, 1965), is considered by many to be the greatest composer of Puerto Rican music. Hernández (birth name: Rafael Hernández Marín) was born in the town of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, into a poor family. This lament titled Lamento Borincano has a lot of ragtime influence to it. It would be nice to hear some guitar and harp arrangements of this one. (Hint, hint...:-) ) And fiddle, and.... https://youtube/watch?v=N53VBYOXNCs Prescioso is listed as his greatest composition: This also has noticeable ragtime influences. Other compositions have other influences, such as Salsa. https://youtube/watch?v=8v_NtoHriqc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafael_Hern%C3%A1ndez_Mar%C3%ADn Theres a salsa number here in MP3 form, title Cumbachero. soundclick/bands/default.cfm?bandID=704566&content=songinfo&songID=6106261 Puerto Rico has honored his memory by naming public buildings, avenues and schools after him. The airport in Aguadilla is named Rafael Hernández Airport. There are schools in The Bronx, Boston, and in Newark, New Jersey named after Rafael Hernández. Rafael Hernandez was also awarded the French Croix du Guerre for his role in WW1. Brad Melnyk, Andy Lowings, Mark Harmer Doug Cox J.r. Adam *I looked up the term El Jibarito, (pronounced hee-bah-ree-to), which you will find here and there on YouTube- its part of the title of the bio-pic made about this composer. A jibarito turns out to be a sandwich made using fried green plantains in place of bread. :-) Plantains are those cousins to banana one sometimes find in stores or mentioned on-line. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jibarito People who feel uncomfortable eating bread/ gluten might well try a jibarito. :-)
