The human desire to be bigger and better than its neighbor, and to - TopicsExpress

The human desire to be bigger and better than its neighbor, and to achieve something bigger than itself is foundational to the hyper missional-ism of the church. While a multitude of believers do simply desire to do great things out of a genuine compassion and love for humanity, there are others who are tempted by the bait of being the best, doing the best and surpassing the greatness of another. I hear it so often in addresses to young people and have watched as many of them groped after the fantastical while scorning that which they actually had. Such people, of whom I am one, always have a difficult time being content because their hopes were stretched so wide and it was subconsciously communicated to them that unless they were doing something or were a part of something bigger than themselves that they were missing something. The beautiful truth of the Gospel, however, is that there are few things actually bigger than you. The heavens cant contain God and yet you do, and are His favorite and most perfect vehicle of expression. There is so much about your life that is beautiful, divine and awe inspiring, but because weve been taught that God inhabits only the fantastical, and the things bigger than ourselves, weve been unable to see Him where He is most evident - in us! By all means, do great things and touch the world, but dont forget that in simply being you, you are a part of something that heaven itself cant contain.
