The humanitarian crisis resulting from children fleeing dangerous - TopicsExpress

The humanitarian crisis resulting from children fleeing dangerous conditions in Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico calls for a response. There are many ways we can help. A fellow Presbyterian minister from South Texas shared the following information: Sacred Heart Catholic Church in downtown McAllen is a Welcome Center for those persons and children who have been processed in the detention centers. These persons and children have been cleared to travel to cities throughout the state and nation where families or sponsors await their arrival. They are warmly welcomed by volunteers who walk them through the center offering a hot meal, clean clothes, medical attention if needed, showers, and a place to rest before boarding a bus taking them to their destination. They receive a fleece blanket/throw for the bus ride and a snack bag. The volunteer assigned to them accompanies the families and/or children to the bus station and continues to care for them until they are on the bus and on their way thereby avoiding persons who would take advantage of them. The operation at Sacred Heart is very well organized and the dignity of all persons and children is honored. Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Brownsville is also set up as a Welcome Center.
