The idea is to occupy Facebook with GOOD MUSIC, breaking the monotony of selfies, posts about everyday life problems, cat and dog pictures, personal videos, bit strips, gym status updates, etc. Whoever likes this post will be given a music artist and has to post a piece by that artist, along with this text! I simply copied this as it was shown to me (by my brother Birdsong), and now it is my job to assign the tasks for this post. If you copy and past it to your home page, then you will be the assignee for that thread. ok? Remember, good music is of mere opinion, as it is hard to define, so I ask that you respect the choices of others. Im going to start with my favorite jazz recording, and the gem of my 78 rpm collection - Bloomdido by Charlie Parker. I never get tired of it. Willie Markley often asks me to play it, and Im always happy to oblige. It took me a looooong time to wrap my head around jazz, and Im still learning about this wonderful American art form, but the stuff that grabbed me first was the bebop of the late 40s and early 50s, when brilliant young firebrands took their parents jazz apart and reassembled it inside out and upside down. The most brilliant of these troubled, drug-addled geniuses was undoubtedly Charlie Parker, followed closely by the truly unhinged Thelonious Monk. Here these two are joined by Parkers oddly well-adjusted partner Dizzy Gillespie, token crazy white genius Buddy Rich and the unfortunately over-shadowed Curley Russell on bass - a veritable Mt. Rushmore of jazz. I like to picture the recording session as I listen. Recorded June 6, 1950, in New York City, with no overdubs or cheating of any kind - just geniuses toe to toe, blowing like there was no tomorrow. The producer, Norman Granz, gave the signal to go, and this is what came out. youtube/watch?v=1MCGweQ8Oso Charlie Parker - saxophone Thelonious Monk - piano Dizzy Gillespie - trumpet Curley Russell - bass Buddy Rich - drums
