The image of the Kissing Sailor taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt in Times Square has become world famous but the identity of the subjects remained a mystery for decades. That changed when Rhode Island teacher Lawrence Verria made it his mission to find the identities of those in the picture. After years of research, Mr. Verria discovered the identities of the sailor and nurse as being that of George Mendonsa and Greta Friedman. Mr. Verria and Mr. Mendonsa both recently paid a visit to the Attleboro Council on Aging to tell their story.
