The interview took place on September 19. With the help of General Honoré and others (the group from Lake Piegneur as well as scientific experts and others concerned), the legislators supported the demands for an environmental impact statement and relative studies. Without the voices from the community, the projects would have been pushed forward without giving heed to any warnings regarding the risks of their designs on the Lake and its salt domes. Yet there is so much more to consider. There are ways we can make a difference in our own practices -- ways we can reduce demand and clean up our act (like keeping plastic usage to a minimum, carrying reusable cups, totes and containers ... how easy is that? Put some in your car right now! Recycling. Riding a bike when weather, load, safety and distance permit). Know that we do not ask much more than responsible practices, being responsible and holding everyone accountable for the messes they make/made and not allowing the contamination of air and water. The Federal legislation passed in 60s for clean air and water in the 70s define these as our right to have clean and protected.
