“The key difference between me and a true believer is that I know I’m probably wrong about a number of things. I realize that I can’t trust my thought processes or even my own eyes to consistently distinguish reality from fantasy. True believers view doubt as weakness; I see it as strength. I’m sure there must be more than a few mistaken conclusions bouncing around inside my skull. I can’t imagine denying this or fearing correction. I want errors in my reasoning to be rooted out and exposed so that I can change my thinking accordingly. I can’t imagine living my life any other way because I’m eager to learn new things and don’t want to waste time being stupid if it can be avoided. True believers fail as thinking humans because they refuse to realize their fallibility and are too afraid of admitting they were wrong.” –Guy P. Harrison, marooned in the 21st century
