The last day of holiday programs: Leading rein - Saturday - TopicsExpress

The last day of holiday programs: Leading rein - Saturday There were 4 newbies: Lily, Leah, Olivia and Luke. Judd came back again as he rode in the last holidays and then there are my regulars: Maeve, Louisa, Vinnie and Josie. Koby said she wanted to ride but I think she just wanted to hang out with the big girls! Grooming, plaiting, tacking up went very smoothly and when revising the types of brushes and safety rules the riders that have been here before all new the answers and Olivia answered a lot correctly too. Im very impressed!!!! Group 1: Louisa, Luke, Olivia, Vinnie and Maeve all rode first. They had to trot around the arena and bring their ponies back to walk then steer through the V shaped poles then trot on around the arena again. Louisa tried steering Angelina through the poles in trot but didnt quite make it, this was a bit of a test as Louisa is nearly 6 and can come off-lead then so I like to push them a little just to see what they are capable of. Vinnie stopped leaning forward and let go of the monkey strap and controlled Cookie really well towards the end of the lesson, great stuff Vinnie. Luke mastered rising trot beautifully for his first time he was riding Sammy and Olivia with a few tweaks mastered her rising trot too especially as she was riding Mally and she is extremely bouncy. Maeve was on Pepper and the last time she rode Pepper it was a bit all over the place but after last weekend and Mondays hol prog where she won BEST RIDER Maeve made riding Pepper look very easy and not like a milkshake! Group 2: Leah, Lily, Judd and Josie all rode after. All these riders are less experienced so steering wasnt expected at all just correct positions and the grasp of rising trot for 3 of these it was their first time. This was Leahs birthday present from her Grandma and she was totally switched on riding Angelina beautifully, how do I know that? Well if you dont ride Angelina beautifully she lets us all know by trying to run away from her rider! Lily also had a great ride on Sammy and her position and rising trot were mastered, fantastic job both of you! Judd rode Cookie and this was only his second time riding his right heel wanted to take over the universe which interfered with his rising trot BUT when asked to go into 2-point position this is where Judd excelled and at the end of the lesson was riding with his heel down and in the correct position, well done! Josie rode Mally the best she has ever done before really working on her leg position not coming too far forward and giving us all a demo on the correct rising trot for all the other riders to see, super job Josie. Each group had a run around whilst the other group was riding, the task was to run up to the end of the arena, grab a name of a point of the horse, run back and then correctly place the name on the point which it represented. Musket was the statue and I believe he behaved himself as there were no reports of a naughty horse? Once everyone had finished riding we all gathered in the small arena whilst the ponies were being untacked. I tested them all on the points of the horse and was very happy with everyones memories especially Louisa who is the youngest as she answered some difficult questions correctly eg. Tell me what 4 things does each pony have, so we had legs, hooves, knees......not correct as there are 2 knees and 2 hocks, then Louisa answered chestnuts and then frogs!!!! Woah!!!!! The others thought they were funny answers but she was correct well done. Fetlocks was another answer I think Olivia said that which is another great and correct answer. All ponies and horses were fed and everyone left with a smile on their face and that is it for another term.....until next hols.
