The letter below was sent in direct response to the APY Executive when Anangu became aware that Ku Arts had written a draft protocol document. You can see now why Ms Tregenza at the 12 December meeting at Umuwa said what she did about the APY Council of Elders. The APY Council of Elders is and will be a threat to anyone black or white disrespecting Anangu. PUT ANANGU FAMILIES FIRST October 2014 APY EXECUTIVE BOARD APY COUNCIL OF ELDERS Dear Members of the APY Executive Board I have been informed that the principles for the Draft Protocol were approved by APY Executive on 10 September 2014. Artists and Elders associated with the Art Centres on APY have spoken with the APY Council of Elders and expressed their grave concerns re the “Draft Protocol” as put forward by Anangukuu Arts and Culture Aboriginal Corporation and have made it very clear that they reject totally this proposal. Anangu have approached us and asked for the support of the APY Council of Elders to ensure that this draft document is not signed off on. No consultation with the APY Art Centres re this draft document occurred. Anangu own and control these centres and it is not appropriate for the APY Executive to speak on behalf of these community run organisations. In addition the document speaks about the APY Law and Culture committee making recommendations to the APY Executive re disputes. In fact, the APY Law and Culture committee has no authority to speak on behalf of the Art Centres. The APY Art Centres have expressed to us in the strongest possible terms that they reject totally any involvement with their centres by Ananguku Arts and Culture Aboriginal Corporation. In closing, please confirm that the draft document as put forward by Ananguku Arts and Culture Aboriginal Corporation will not be signed off on.
