The long-awaited Pride parade will be on Sunday, October 12th, - TopicsExpress

The long-awaited Pride parade will be on Sunday, October 12th, 2014! Weve got space for you, plus 110 of your best friends! (Thats 108 people carrying 3x5 foot host country flags, plus a ten foot banner that needs at least three people to carry it.) Due to the holiday weekend and folks travel schedules, weve got more space available than not. (Like 70 open spots, yall!) So please bring your neighbor, cousin, partner, and anyone else who supports Peace Corps and equality. We are going to have so much fun! If you havent RSVPed already, please do so as soon as possible. Now for the logistics, the parade will assemble at the MARTA Civic Center Station at the intersection of West Peachtree St. and Ralph McGill Blvd. Please use MARTA to get to the assembly area as there is no parking in this area. Though the parade steps off at 1:00 PM, weve been asked to check in at the assembly area between 11:00 and 11:30. Please wear comfortable shoes and either clothing from your country of service, an AARPCV t-shirt, or, at the very least something colorful. Bring your patience and sense of humor. You may also want to tote some water and a snack. Port-a-potties will be available at the assembly area during the time before the parade begins. AARPCV will be in Group E, after the Atlanta Rollergirls and before the Atlanta Bucks Rugby Football Club. Woot, woot! Suzanne Marks (RPCV Togo), our LGBT Liaison Extraordinaire, is still accepting ideas for group chants. If you have one, please let her know at [email protected]. The parade travels from Ralph McGill Blvd. down Peachtree Street. A right turn will be made onto 10th Street and the parade will end at the Charles Allen gate of Piedmont Park. Marchers will be able to enter the park through the Charles Allen gate but floats and vehicles will need to proceed down 10th Street onto Monroe and park elsewhere. As there is no parking at the festival and very limited parking exists around Piedmont Park, we recommend parking in the SAGE Deck or the Colony Square Deck. These two areas have parking on a first-come first-serve basis and do charge a fee.
