The lost woman is probably some of the most haunting footage from WW2 Ive personally seen. Ive watched the short clip of her many times and I just breaks my heart for some reason. I know practically nothing about her. She remains a mystery to me and many many others. Firstly shes very beautiful, even in this dishevelled state and secondly, something really bad has obviously happened to her. Her face expresses rage, defeat, defiance, shame, pain and anger all at the same time. It is said she was a German soldier who was set upon by Czech partisans as she and her fellow soldiers (also in this clip) retreated in surrender. Others say she was an ethnic German victim of rape and violence at the hands of mobs who sought to rid their country of Germans...who knows? In the end it doesnt matter. When you see her face, her dignity......the flicker of fire in her eyes and a momentary glimpse into her soul, all youre left feeling for her is - love....
