The media has twisted this story so much that is has become a joke now. I will never believe a single thing I see or read in the news from this point on, knowing how badly they have mutilated what actually happened for their own benefit. Or at least copy and paste the story from bellow! It is the direct post by mr. George Hoeye. George Hoeye: We were traveling West approaching the rest stop towards the bottom of the of the hill. No vehicles in front of us. East bound was a line of traffic with a group of motorcycles leading the way and a motor home behind them, all of the sudden one of the motorcycles swerved into the turn lane for the rest area. All of the sudden I saw the rear end of a motorcycle fish tail towards our lane and then there were motorcycles, bodies and debris flying all over the place. I said oh shit and Brenda who was playing on her phone looked up and saw the motorcycles and people flying all over the place. 1 rider was flying end over end in their lane, one was rolling across the highway into our lane and one went down behind them. A riderless motorcycle on its side was sliding down the highway at an angle towards our lane and my truck. I hit the brakes and was trying to avoid the motorcycle without rolling our truck off the gravel shoulder. The motorcycle hit our truck and I slid off the road and stoped. Immediately I exited my truck, told Brenda to call 911. 1 rider ended up about 30 ft in front of us, one almost across from him on their side and 2 of the riders were behind us in their lane. The 2 in front said they thought they were ok. I ran to the other 2 riders and 1 more limped up to us. 1 had a severely injured leg. I asked him what the unconscious mans name was, he said Kevin. I started talking to him and asked if anyone had a shirt. 1 of the riders gave me his hoodie and I used it to apply pressure to Kevins head as he was bleeding and had several bumps and cuts on it all the while talking to him. A great guy came and checked his pulse. Had a pulse but was weak. He kept checking it for me ever few minutes. Others came to see if we needed anything and I told them to cover up the other guys leg. Another girl came to help and checked for a pulse again. Still was very weak. After about 10 min they said there was no pulse. I continued applying pressure until the park ranger arrived and confirmed Kevin had passed. I said several prayers for Kevin and kept telling his friends were ok. The other riders gathered at my truck. They all seemed to be in shock, but all were very respectful and polite. Prior to the accident, I never saw any of the motorcycles passing vehicles, either on the right or in my lane on the left. They were all in the front of the traffic in their lane. They may have passed the motor home or other vehicles before the accident, but not when the accident happend. It was just an accident. The motor home driver said the blew past him, but a large 90s ish motor home traveling uphill was likely not going the speed limit and it may have seemed like the blew past him. (Just my opinion) it seemed like there were several vehicles behind the motor home, but not positive. No vehicles were in front of the bikes and no vehicles in front of me. None of the news stories had an accurate account of what actually happened and Several of Kevins friends and fellow riders have had so many questions, this is why I chose to post my account of what happened minus the graphic details. Kevin has some great friends and riding partners, he was blessed! Brenda and I wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Kevins family and friends. May he rest in peace!
