The message of THE CROSS is the core and crucial message of ANY preaching, teaching, profession or expression that we can EVER share as followers of Christ! It is the message of THE CROSS that is the Good News of the gospel! No matter how much supplemental insight, understanding, revelation or creative forms of representation that we may experience, receive or deliver, if we as ministers and/or our various audiences as recipients dont fully and personally appropriate the message of THE CROSS, any and every other message is vain and profane babbling... As I watched this OUTSTANDING presentation from Billy Graham, not only was I challenged to tears to commit my heart and my life to Christ all over again, I was PROFOUNDLY struck by the power and the IMPERATIVE of the pure kerygma - a word defined in Wikipedia as the irreducible essence of Christian apostolic teaching. The message of the Cross is the kerygma, the kernel, the heart of the gospel. When we, in our individual OR corporate ministry, neglect preaching, teaching and discipling that appropriates this CORE truth; when we short-change this truth in our zeal to lay hold of the MANY other truths and demonstrations that God has so graciously revealed to us -- when we NEGLECT THE FOUNDATION, we cause people to operate in ERROR and RELIGION! We cause them to walk in an OUTWARD EXPRESSION of spiritual actions and verbal affirmations that are not GROUNDED in a SAVING RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD by THE CROSS!
