The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. ~ Rajneesh Can one anticipate the future? The struggles, the joys, the pain? It may be a mystery because we humans have to learn from our past mistakes and try to continuously improve ourselves. Motherhood is one of these things, never regretting, only moving forward, that is the only way. Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki is one of these rare anime which come once a year or more, to remind us why we became so enchanted by anime in the first place. *The following review may contain some spoilers* Story/Setting: The Movie tells the story of “Hana”. An ordinary girl college student, in which one day, when she was in her lecture, she had her eyes laid in what of a curious man. A man wearing a shirt with a stretched-out collar, using no textbooks. She got a little interested in him. Well, you could say it’s a love at first sight. ‘Cause it’s perfectly normal, that you daydream about someone from the opposite gender, right? Yeah, thought so. Continuing on… They both started to hangout and then started dating and such… And then one Day! In a Cold winter night with the sky showing a beautiful view of the stars. He told her that he will tell her that he said to no other, but she had to close her eyes, as she did, but she opened it a little too early to find him, turning into a Majestic creature, that is known for his pride and fearlessness. A Wolf. He showed her his true self of being a Werewolf. She was dazzled at that wonderful creature that the only words she said was “The world is full of things I don’t know”. They started living with each other. He started working, until a wonderful day, came by! Hana got pregnant! He was very happy that he is becoming a father! 9 Months passed and now she gave birth to a girl with the name of “Yuki” in the spring of next year she gave to another child, but this time a boy with the name of “Ame”. One Day, Ookami (The Werewolf) has disappeared! Hana took the children and had gone to look for him! When she was searching besides a lake, she found some Garbage men pulling an animal, from the lake. When she got a closer look, that animal was none other than Ookami! And here begins the Motherhood journey, the ultimate test of courage, wisdom, strength and most of all patience. Verdict: 10/10 The story is just perfect. Heartwarming, a tearjerker, you get a few laughs here and there and best of all, it shows you how that mother’s work isn’t easy, and you should consider appreciate your Mom more than anything. ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- Characters: The only gripe here is the lack of biography. Meaning that most of the characters here don’t have any background. Ookami for example. He doesn’t have any backstory at all. We don’t know who or what he is except he’s a wondering werewolf. He’s death was Unknown, which grinds my gears because I really wanted to know, how and when. Other than that. The characters were top notch! They were likable rememberable, and every single one of them had a huge in the movie which is not that easy to do. Verdict: 8.5/10 The lack of backstory can be deadly sometimes, even if the story is good. ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- Art: Here’s the drawback here. The Artwork was bad! But it was watchable and somehow, for me. It felt it was very well fit with the story and setting. But I can think why the art wasn’t good, because they wanted to focus only on the story, which is a fair point because, you don’t watch because of the art. You watch anime because of the story that it has to offer. Verdict: 7.5/10 And that being generous, any other person will give it a flat 3/10. ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- Voice Acting: Like any other Movie based anime I’ve watched, the Voice acting wasn’t good. It somehow felt to me like they were just reading the script not really acting what was in the script which was a bummer but at the same time normal. I’ve gotten used to it being bad in movies so…. Yeah. Verdict: 6.5/10 ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- In Movie Soundtrack: It was just beautiful. Very fitting to the atmosphere. Very Memorable. Some of them even can leave you crying. Verdict: 9/10 ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- Final Verdict is: 9.0/10 The Movie was so close to being a masterpiece, but the lack of backstory for the characters, the Lack in Acting for the voice actors and the bad Artwork in the anime are rather disappointing. But does it reflect on the anime? NO! The Movie is a 100% must watch! You’re missing a real quality, here. I recommend it to everyone who is looking for a masterpiece story to watch, you will never regret it!
