The moment has come this F1 season for drivers to announce their team changes for next season, albeit not officially. Hours ago, Red Bull Racing driver Vettel announced he is leaving his team to move to Scuderia Ferrari, which will start a domino effect across the top teams. The real unknowns here are what will happen to Jenson Button in this shake up. The other unknown is the choice of replacement at Red Bull. Danill Kvyat seems an unusual choice. - Here is what Wikipedia has to say about his F1 career. Formula One In October 2013, Kvyat was announced as the second driver of the Scuderia Toro Rosso (STR) Formula One team for the 2014 season, alongside Frenchman Jean-Éric Vergne. He replaced Daniel Ricciardo, who moved to parent team Red Bull Racing. As a test driver for STR, he took part in Friday practice for the final two Grands Prix of the 2013 season, in the United States and Brazil.Kvyat made his F1 debut—aged 19—in the 2014 Australian Grand Prix, where he finished 9th, breaking Sebastian Vettels record as the youngest points-scorer in Formula One. For one of the top flight teams on the grid, this is in my opinion, such an unexpected choice. Not even a full season on F1 race experience, a cap-ful rather than a hat-ful of points from the 2014 season (only 8). I also wanted to echo comments from some of the experienced Grand Prix drivers who are commenting teenagers not being ready for Formula One. It is in their words, not something you do to learn... but come ready prepared. In that instance the quote was focused toward Max Verstappen, who will be joining the grid in 2015. The phrase, youthful enthusiasm versus maturity and experience comes to mind, as many of my motor-sport friends are likely to agree. So to this weekends prediction for the Japanese GP.... as I predicted two weeks ago it is likely to be a wet race... although I was not planning on a typhoon brewing. I have seen the qualifying results and are we surprised to see the Mercedes team at the front? Not really. This circuit is very demanding, and we have two highly motivated drivers on the front row who I predict will take it all the way to the flag. But I will also expect great things from Williams who I predict will come in third. Behind them, well we have a couple of drivers involved in the various team movements that I can only suggest may impact their performance for this weekend.
