The more I do comedy, the more I question the phrase, Funny is funny. Ive been listening and watching a lot of comedy from both sides of the spectrum. Ill see someone have a good set at Jokes and Notes and then die a horrible death at Coles with the same exact material, and vice versa. Ive seen headliners perform at clubs out of their element have mediocre/terrible sets due to the crowd not getting the references/material. Then you have comics whose material is more universal, and they do alright pretty much wherever. I guess what I;m saying is that there is an interesting line between what people and comics find funny. Ive seen comics (myself included) critique someones material because that joke is too simple. But what does it matter? As long as you are in your element, and it works for you, have fun. Every comic cant perform everywhere, even good ones, and have great sets. The more I perform, I am becoming ok with that. Im done ranting. Thoughts????
