The most dangerous threat to democracy in the United States of America is the mistaken belief that we actually practice one. Democracy is not a noun, its a verb. We have the trappings of democracy; you can pull a lever every two to four years - oh, only for candidates that have been pre-approved and pre-selected by the ruling elite. But when it comes to actually participating in a meaningful way in how our society is organized...we the people never have an opportunity to participate.
