The mother of an abandoned 1-year-old girl walked into a South Side police station and is being held pending charges, according to authorities. Police had sought help from the public in identifying the girl, who was found next to a bag of clean diapers and a sippy cup in a two-flat on the South Side on Friday night. After the child was found, she was taken to an area hospital and deemed to be in good condition. It’s not clear what charges the mother may face or how old she is. The child was found by 50-year-old Thomas Freeman and a friend, Arleasia Freeman was approached by a young woman asking to borrow a cellphone about 11:30 p.m. because a baby was in a nearby building. She walked away from Freeman before he could respond. Freeman and Lee approached the building and saw what looked like a toy wrapped on the ground.
