The myth of Jewish ritual murder can be traced to a specific murder of a 12-year-old Christian on the day before Easter in 1144. Not surprisingly, the myth was launched by a Welsh monk named Thomas of Monmouth, who claimed Jews were responsible. The theory was that Jews worldwide believed that Jews have to shed Christian blood every year to obtain their freedom. From then to the present, the myth has persisted.
