The new FX drama “Fargo” got off to a promising start on Tuesday, with ratings across several broadcasts that added up to more than four million viewers. A loose adaptation of the critically acclaimed film by the Coen brothers, the show received some of the strongest reviews of the television season. Its initial episode, which ran at an unusual length, from 10 p.m. to 11:37 p.m., attracted 2.65 million viewers, about half of them in the category the FX network sells to advertisers — viewers between ages 18 and 49. The network repeated the show two more times Tuesday night, for a total audience of 4.1 million for the night, with about 1.8 million in the 18-49 group.
