The old familiar question. Same applies to hearing. Sound is just a vibration wave in the air that is picked up by your eardrum and converted by your brain into something we call sound. You can measure the vibration waves (energy level and frequency) and display them in a graph form so we know that everyone receives the same signal. The wave conversion by eardrum and processioning by the brain, however, can not be measured. So, we do not know if two people listening to a musical instrument hear the same sound. This does not mean that one may hear scrambled noise. They both receive the same harmonics but the processing past the eardrum may be slightly different.
