The one on the left: a Stanley block plane I bought from Lowes - TopicsExpress

The one on the left: a Stanley block plane I bought from Lowes years ago. It was my first new plane. Had to flatten the sole with sandpaper and glass, also had to hone the blade before it was usable. The one on the right: my recent purchase, a Stanley sweetheart #60-1/2 low angle block plane. The material is heavier, the blade is THICK at 1/8, and had A2 steel hardness proudly printed on it. The plane is ready to go right out of the box, sole is finely grounded flat, the cutting edge of blade has a mirror sheen. Even though I spent more than double for the sweetheart I know it is going to be well worth it, with or without the 10% off coupon from Grizzly. For anyone new at woodworking, this purchase further proves the importance of not settling on good enough tools. Initial investment on a better tool will pay you back in the end.
