::: The one who is best to his spouse has perfected his character and behavior ::: Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The believers who show the most perfect Faith are those who have the best behavior, and the best of you are those who are the best to their wives.” [Narrated by at-Tirmidhi] Points of Benefit: Islam, first of all, is a set of beliefs that demands its adherents to perform some rituals – such as Prayer, fasting, pilgrimage and so on. If performed properly – by fulfilling all the rulings and inner dimensions – these rituals purify the soul of a person, which in turn is reflected through his character and behavior. Therefore, perfecting our character and behavior is the pinnacle of our faith. If we have shortcomings in areas of beliefs or rituals or spiritual purification then that will be reflected through our character and behavior. This Hadith (Prophetic tradition) subtly indicates to this dimension of understanding Islam. Furthermore, perfecting our character and behavior with our spouses indicates the quality of our Islam, because a person can be good to his relatives, neighbors, friends or peers but his true face is often revealed in front of his spouse. Hence, if we are not the best to our spouses then we have a great shortcoming in us that needs to be overcome with highest priority.
