The only reason why animals should not be exploited is because it is morally wrong to treat sentient beings as resources and this means not exploiting them at all. The words ‘compassion’ and ‘compassionate’ should be banned from use in this context as they are too subjective to be of any value and simply leave the door wide open for this kind of travesty. It is the inevitable result of the promotion of ‘happy exploitation’ which simply makes people more comfortable with consuming animal products, hardly surprising when it is getting a stamp of approval from the large animal organisations. This is not any kind of a step forward, it’s a massive step backwards.
