The party chairman in Ogun State accused the commissioner and two others of usurping the roles of the ACN executives. The crisis rocking the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Monday consumed a commissioner in the cabinet of the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun. The Commissioner, Ayo Olubori, who oversees the Ministry of Forestry, was suspended alongside two other leaders of the party in the local government, Mufutau Ajibola (Chairman of Ogun State Universal Education Board) and Yinka Akintomide. A statement issued by Yahyah Idowu, Chairman, Yewa South Local Government Area of ACN, and made available to journalists in Abeokuta stated that the suspension of the trio was done in line with the party constitution, adding that a panel of enquiry has equally been set up to probe them. “The leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Yewa South Local Government, rising from its meeting on Sunday the 14th day of July, 2013 at Owode-Yewa hereby announce the suspension of Mr. Ayo Olubori, Commissioner for Forestry, Mufutau Ajibola, the Chairman of the Ogun StateUniversal Education Board (SUBEB), Engineer Yinka Akintomide, an Elder within the ACN,” “Their suspension is according to the constitution of the partywhile a panel of enquiry has been set up within the party to probe into the alleged anti-party activities levied against them. The three party chieftains have been alleged of activities bothering on causing disunity within the party,” read the statement. A faction, allegedly loyal to the state governor, had earlier announced the suspension of a member of House of Representatives, Abiodun Akinlade, representing the zone over alleged anti-party activities But another faction, headed by the party chairman and in support of Mr. Akinlade said that the ‘sin’ of Mr. Akinlade is his interest in the 2015 governorship race which Mr. Amosun is also eyeing for a second term. Mr. Idowu, in the statement, said it regrets “that the ship of our party is being steered towards troubled waters by the actions of some of our members, the origin of which can be located in the fact that some within the executive arm of government appear uncomfortable with the ambition of Honourable Biodun Akinlade, a leader of the party and Member, House of Representative, representing the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency and have resolved to throw the party into confusion.” “This will not blow any good wind for the party. We also condemn what seem like the overt hijacking of the duty and responsibility of the party by some members of the executivearm of government. Ayo Olubori and the two others suspended are not members of the party executives in our local government, and as such they cannot arrogate the constitutional duties, functions and responsibilities of the party executives with impunity by taking unilateral actions toundermine the interest of the party”, the party chairman stated. “Hon. Biodun Akinlade is a leader of the party, and as a member and Ogun State citizen can aspire to any office under the platform of the party, including the office of the governor. We therefore call on the Leader of the party, AremoOlusegun Osoba, to wade into the potential crises which threatens the peaceful co-existence of members so that his hard earned political victory in the 2011 elections would not be truncated on the altar of selfish ambition of certain individuals. “We believe if the current crisis within the party is allowed to fester, it could compromise the democratic credentials of our great party and jeopardize its future electoral values and victories,” Mr. Idowu said.
