The past few months have opened my eyes to an issue which was always on my mind, but it never hit so close to home than now. I was in a scooty accident some time back. By the grace of God , my daughter and I didnt suffer any major injuries , but I suffered a hairline crack in my pelvic bone which was discovered a month later. I still have a limp and suffer excruciating pain. During this time had to drop by a couple of malls, burger joints, markets , my boys school and a couple of other places and to my utter disappointment none of these places had a ramp to facilitate a special needs person. Even an X-ray lab did not have one, my poor friend and her driver had to hoist my wheelchair over the entrance, for the x-ray. Its high time that we start facilitating people with special needs. So many places to try, and so little time to do so. Sometimes I wish my financial future was well taken care of , so I could drive around town tasting every food spot in sight, and (supposedly) attain nirvana. But sadly some of us mere mortals have to work for a living. Visited a couple of new food places around town, and sadly none of them were worth a mention. But I have to share what I have had to endure for the past 5 months, so bear with me my friends first stop… Options… the less said about this place is enough said. Note #1: a huge (empty) platter with a side salad and 4 itsy bitsy prawns(shrimps) do not constitute tempura prawns . The batter was soggy and tasted stale and had the taste of a locally produced batter available in the market. Note#2:a whole wheat naan is definitely not WHITE in colour and a tandoori paratha is not supposed to look & taste like a naan. Note #3: If one is serving a huge bowl of hummus,, then atleast the # of pita slices should be enough to do justice to the big serving of hummus . The Turkish Platter so bland , that one cannot even describe the taste of any of the 4 items . The Chicken piece tasted more like boiled chicken than tandoori. No comments about the mocktail. Seriously my vocabulary fails me. I practically wanted to throttle my friend who had forced me down those stairs for a meal. Next stop Mocca,,,, well the coffee was nothing to write home about, the breakfast platter was OK, the huge disappointment was a shredded beef calzone, tasted of raw flour, the beef was badly burnt and tasted bitter and the sauce in the beef tasted like Ragu spaghetti sauce. Needless to say that waiters walking up and down with the ingredients of ones smoothie in their hands in not an appetizing sight, especially when the smoothie is made with a local well known (badnaam)yoghurt brand. The 2nd visit on hubbys insistence , ordered the same items as b4, and this time they were much better, and they managed to salvage their repute in my eyes. Arcadian was a huge disappointment ,,,a friend already gave the review on the day we went , so no need to repeat . https://facebook/groups/pakfoodforum/permalink/421581964642757/?stream_ref=21 The whole craze about its molten lava cake is just that,,, a craze. The cake doesnt even have a true chocolate colour. It’s a pale cappuccino shade at best. I do a lot of baking and experimenting , and that colour of brown in cakes is only achieved when I use local/desi cocoa powder. My crème brulee was covered with some black specks which looked like ash, when I confronted the waiter , he was adamant that it was caramelized sugar. When I pointed out that sugar doesn’t turn to ash, he said madam this is made fresh on order, so highly unlikely that something fell on it. Even a fool knows that crème brulee , does not bake in 5-15 minute. It is always baked in a bain-marie, and takes a long time to bake. The most annoying fact was that it was not even Crème Brulee, it was local vanilla custard in a fancy ramekin dish. Loca,,, well it made me go Loca with anger and disappointment. And I am not talking about the fast food takeaway, I am talking about the fine dining. One thing which I never rant about is price and I really don’t get it when people review a restaurant and crib about the cost of dishes and then compare it with the fact that their MOM makes it better. I am sure she does, kis ki maan nay aaj tak bura khana banaya hai??? (there is a joke abt it, Ill share it at the end). But the fact is you get a good dish at home, you might have paid for the groceries, you might pay the gas bill at the end of the month, but have u ever paid your MOM, sister or wife for that one/ zillion dishes they make for you. Have you ever considered the amount of time and energy that woman has put in, in extreme weather/ kitchen conditions. I bet you NEVER. You might even have a 14-18 k a month khansama , but the fact is that khansama is actually costing you 30k+ a month with his meals, clothes, and the pilfering he does with your food supplies, your monthly budget and God only knows what else. So consider all these factors before blasting a restaurant for charging an X amount for a single dish or / head. Well enough negativity, the only saving grace of the past few months was breakfast at Yoglicious and lunch at Udon House. Ill take a rest b4 I do a write up on that. Chowwwwwwww Joke A newly wedded wife tries to impress her husband with her cooking , and every time the husband comments that the dish is good but not like my mother used to make it Many years pass, and one day while making lunch the wife gets busy with something and the food gets burned, and there is no time to make another meal. So she reluctantly presents the burnt dish to her husband, all the while fearing his wrath for the burnt dish. After eating the meal the husband shouts out with joy finally after all these years u have learnt my moms style of cooking
