The pleasantly cool weather of late can be attributed to the fact - TopicsExpress

The pleasantly cool weather of late can be attributed to the fact that the jet stream has dipped to the south of our area and the NAO has been neutral to negative. As long as this pattern remains fairly constant, which I believe may be the case now, we will see a similar weather pattern for the beginning of August. The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is a climatic teleconnection used as guidance to interpret and at times forecast weather, particularly during the winter months here in the mid-Atlantic. The NAO index (negative/neutral/positive) is based on the surface sea-level pressure difference between high pressure in close proximity to the Azores and low pressure in the higher (subpolar) latitudes. A negative (-NAO) usually portends cooler than normal temperatures for the mid-Atlantic. In the winter, it can signal a colder and snowier pattern.
