The police have a sullied name after the events in #ferguson, and many people are claiming they are militarized against the public. I would like to enlighten some of you as to who these men really are. My father served as a member of the Saint Louis County Police for 30 years from 1976-2006. What you dont hear on the media is how jaded working with the scum of the city on a daily basis makes these wonderful men and women. You think you hate your job? Imagine going in every day and having people swear at you, spit, try to bite you, shoot you, or stab you. These are the stories I heard growing up. I remember when my father first got his promotion and was put on night shift in the worst section of the city. I would help him load (6) 30 round magazines for a police issue assault rifle because he wasnt sure if a gang would try to end his life while he was on patrol that night, as the rest of the city slept. And through all of this, he is, and forever will be, the most compassionate, loving, fair, and honorable man I have ever met. He is the first person to stand up for whats right, or speak out against whats wrong. These men dont shoot innocent people. These men are protectors of innocent people. Think twice before you pass judgment on the people who risk their lives to keep you safe.
