The pre- tournament favourite Kanwal Tigers started their campaign of 92.7 Big FM-J&K Corporate Premier League in style, outplaying Khazir Royals in a one-sided encounter played at Boys Higher Secondary School, Bijbehara ground on Sunday. It was festive atmosphere at Bijbehara ground which is home turf for the Kanwal Tigers as around 15000 to 16000 spectators thronged the venue to see their local side starting its campaign of JKCPL. Batting first, Kanwal Tigers started their inning on a flying note. Opener Ubaid Lone made it sure to pile misery on the opposite side and bringing joy on the faces of spectators. Kanwal Tigers piled up a huge total of 170 runs for the loss of only three wickets in their allotted overs. Ubaid Lone with 72 runs from just 44 deliveries was highest scorer for them. It was power knock from Ubaid hitting sixes and fours with will. Naseer Want scored 44 from 33 deliveries while as Sartaj scored 25. For Khazir Royals, Mujtaba Rizwi and Manzoor Wadoo took one wicket each. In reply, Khazir Royal batsman could not stand in front of the Kanwal bowlers. The whole team was bundled out for 105 runs in 16.4 overs. Imran with 24 and Manzoor with 21 were the only notable scorers for them. On Kanwal Tigers front it was decent effort from the whole bowling unit. Mudasir and Amir took three wickets each while as Rocky Dutta took two. Abid chipped in with one wicket. Kanwal Tigers won match by 65 runs. Ubaid Lone for his knock was adjudged as HDFC man of the match. He also bagged TCI maximum sixes award. Hailing his side for the win, Team Owner, Farooq Amin, said, “I am delighted to see such a strong display of cricket from my side. We outplayed our opponents who comprised seasoned stars handsomely”. “At the start of the league we got setback in shape of Parvez Rasool being called for Team India. Though it was setback but we are happy it is our team skipper who has become first cricketer from State to be selected for Team India. In his absence team showed character and winning attitude,” he said. About the home support, he said, “Definitely that was big factor in motivating my team. However, I was not expecting such huge number of spectators. It shows that people are taking this league positively and are becoming its fan”. About the future campaign of his side, he said, “We have got balanced side filled with youth and experience. I am sure my side would be among top teams at the end of league phase”
