The problem I think is not that he has performed some concrete misdeed which can be simply ratified by a cringing recantation. If you have insulted someone or made false claims about someone, you can take it back. If you have broken something, you can repair or replace it. But his slip is not some concrete misdeed in itself. It is a character revelation about what is going on in his own mind and his own motivations. You cant simply erase that by words of assurance to the contrary. Furthermore, it is not like he is just some conventional teacher complaining about his job. He is an MOE scholar, and we expect more from our scholars than we do from conventional teachers, that they are made of finer stuff and of nobler souls and motivations. So I think there is a very good and powerful case for his scholarship to be revoked on the suspicion on less than suitable motivations which makes him unworthy of the scholarship which is awarded precisely to those of much more impeccable motivations.
