The question of whether to give money to the person who approaches you on the street is often debated among Christians. Is it wise to give money to panhandlers when we do not know what they will do with the money? Is it safe? Should Christians just focus their giving on church? These are all valid questions and the Bible has the answer: Christians should absolutely help the poor and those in need. Not only is it an expression of the love of Christ, it is pleasing to God and leads to more blessings for the giver. Scriptures On Helping The Needy If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth. – Deuteronomy 15:7-11.
