The racial tensions we have growing around the country remind me of my personal favorite SNL skit and the crazy history behind it. Richard agreed to do SNL, but told Lorne Michaels that it would only happen if Paul Mooney would write for him. NBC then embarrassed Mooney and Richard by making him interview for a job he was beyond qualified for. Chevy Chase wanted to desperately be in a skit with Richard, but Mooney knew Richard didnt like Chase so, hed written skits with every other cast member, but Chevy. After pressure from Lorne Michaels and others Mooney wrote this piece. A protest to the way he felt hed been treated by NBC executives. 2 weeks later Chevy Chase was on the cover of New York magazine and was dubbed the funniest man in America...Johnny Carsons response when people said Chase might take over hosting The Tonight show: Chase couldnt ad-lib a fart after a baked-bean dinner.
