The road to Allah. To cross or not to cross? The current Allah situation in Malaysia seems to be getting out of hand. We are spending so much time and energy arguing over a word. The louder we argue, the more the fence sitter Malays will fall in behind UMNO. The Christians are fighting for their Allah rights on the premise that we are living in a civil society with laws and order that keeps the peace. You are assuming they play by the same rules. Yes you are right. The constitution is on your side. You have the right but sometimes, like the man who starts to cross the road the moment the lights turn green, without checking to see if there is some nut trying to beat the lights, you can be right. And dead. Check before you cross their path - what do you see ? I dont know about you but I see a train wreck without a driver coming your way. This is not about bravery anymore. If you want to fight, fight smart. Events have been happening lately that shows that we are increasingly being ruled by a group that will stop at nothing to maintain their grip on power. Look at the courts and recent high profile acquittals. Look at the Police and pray tell me, are they there to protect you? Or are they there to protect the Government of the day? Look at the laws of the land. Are they being justly applied? Look at how Father Lawrence is being slapped with Sedition Charges while nothing happens to the Mufti who incites bloodshed. Make no mistake, we are practically living in a state of war here. And as they say,all is fair in love and war. You are really captives fighting for your rights to use a word. You have won the battle once. Victory quickly turned into defeat. Now you want to go into battle again. Even if, by some dark twisted plot, you are allowed to win, what do you get? The UMNO Malays will be out on the streets again and this will repeat ad infinitum. Meantime, you will alienate more and more Malays which seems to be the gameplan to PORTRAY AN ISLAM UNDER ATTACK. And you are playing right into their hands. UMNO linked groups are already marching around making threatening noises trying to provoke a reaction. And May 13 is being resurrected. Is this what you want? The need to be right has blinded us. And pride dictates that we cannot back down as we will lose face.This applies to both sides of the controversy. We cant see the forest for the trees. It is time to step back to see the bigger picture.The bigger prize is the future of our country where race and religion no longer matter. I hope that Christians can stand down for now. Dont fight publicly.Take the fight into your heart and keep it private. As it should be. There is no way they can monitor what is in your heart. Have interfaith dialogues whenever possible. There are many Muslims who support you. As for the defaced bible, it is the spirit and not the letter of the book that counts. I have seen dog eared Bibles still being used with no ill effects. Here is a very sensible suggestion by Marcel Fernandez Let UMNO win the Court battle. Everyone in West Malaysia stop using Allahfor the time being thus robbing UMNO of the potent weapon they now hold in their hands. Let the East Malaysian Christians get incensed at being deprived of the right to use Allah.Then absolutely nothing will stand in the way of UMNO being given the boot in GE14. Once Pakatan takes over, the whole Allah issue can be re-evaluated by people of goodwill. Are you prepared to lose this battle to win the war? Please share as I cannot tag anybody. Stancheelee
