The role of media in a democracy is extremely important as it is the media that forms and gives shape to public opinions which again in turn draws the roadmap of a nation’s destiny. Judiciousness and honesty of media is thus of paramount interest so far as a healthy democratic society is concerned. It is very unfortunate and shameful that a section of the so called media is hell bent on complicating delicate trivial issues to divide the society by sensationalized presentation of news items. One can easily imagine the magnitude of damage that would have resulted had the people of Nagaland used to follow the local news channels of Assam. The news traders, while covering the border dispute issue, conveniently forget that they are reporting an issue that encompasses two states of a sovereign nation and not two different countries at war.
