The sacked Inspector General of police Yankuba Sonko has been redeployed to the Ministry of Justice. Sonko is not a trained lawyer, the last time we checked on his CV known as resume. He has an in depth knowledge on law enforcement. But that doesnt mean that he is a lawyer. His redeployment is just a decoy. Sonko will soon be arrested. He is under investigations. JK is good at fooling his appointees. Few days ago, a Sarahule man Ousainou Sankanu of Spain was on Freedom radio charging that Sonko and his team have abdicated their responsibilities as cops by failing to prevent dissident Ousainou Bai Sankareh from leaving the country. Bai was on bail. Bai was detained upon his arrival in Madrid, Sankanu has claimed. He has filed torture and and abduction charges against Bai. The same Sarahule man also alleges that the CID serious crime unit in Banjul have received bribery in a case in which he said he was a party. His brother based in The Gambia was contacted and he confirmed that he accompanied the police to effect Bai Sankarehs arrest. He said the police were bribed to allow Bai to jump bail. He single out detective Lamin Cham and one Mr. Sanyang as having being complicit in the said bribery scandal. A day or so after Sankanus Freedom interview Sonko was fired. Sankanu said he personally contacted Sonko to effect Bai Sankanus arrest. He also said he protested against Bais departure from The Gambia without the police stopping him.
