The search is on for batonbearers to carry the Queen’s Baton during the final leg of its epic journey around the 70 nations and territories of the Commonwealth. Glasgow 2014 organisers are looking for 4000 inspirational people whose positive contribution to the lives of others within their community will inspire millions of people watching the Queen’s Baton Relay. Vice-chair of the Angus Games Steering Group, Councillor Craig Fotheringham said: “Opportunities don’t come much bigger than this. This is your chance to give someone you know their moment to shine and Angus Council are supporting the drive to get local people nominated. “The Queen’s Baton Relay offers a unique opportunity for people across Angus to share in the magic of the Games and we are looking forward to welcoming the baton to the county next year – who knows, it could be you that we’re cheering on!” The 40-day relay is taking place across the length and breadth of the country from 14 June - 23 July 2014. Nominations open at 9am on 10 October and close at 5pm on 22 November 2013. Nominations are open from family members, friends or someone they know to anybody 12 years or above who has: • made a positive contribution to the lives of others through community sport • undertaken voluntary work or contributed to schools or youth organisations • contributed towards greater inclusion for disadvantaged or marginalised sectors of the community • been a role model or mentor to youth through sport • displayed a level of individual achievement against the odds • made a significant contribution to their local community To find out more and to nominate visit: glasgow2014/baton-relay
