The season of Christmas and Hanukkah is a season of hope. It is a time to assess the potential in all of us. At this time of the year I pause to imagine what it was like to be out of oil yet the lights continued to be lit ... I contemplate the impact one small baby could have on the world even though the birth was one of poverty and exclusion ... I pause to think about what you can do ... what I can do. I just did a whirlwind NJ-Buffalo and back again few days but in the midst of those days and the season we are in I thought about what can be. From the incredible group of community leaders at the HAWNY awards program and luncheon where the County Exec. spoke of opportunities if we work together to a journey down Main Street past Williamsville South High School where dreams that are wrapped around my life and the lives of very special friends either were honed or had a beginning and where dreams and possibilities for young people are being created today. And, then this morning there was TSO and their Canon. It made me think of the music room at South ... who would have thought that my friend Bob would be part of a transforming musical group impacting the world or that the other Double D would be bringing music across America touching lives with from the heart lyrics that just grab you into lifes realities. Then theres the other Bob and the other Dave who have brought their musical gifts to the heartland. All from one music room in one high school on one Main Street. Today, please listen to the musical gifts of one of my friends from that high school whose fields are snow covered this morning ... consider who you are and what you can take from this season of possibility into the new year. We are at a point of great challenge. Bob, thank you for the music of TSO! Every time I hear the piano notes even in their simplicity I get an at home feeling.
