The seven-part documentary WAR with Gwynne Dyer (produced in the mid 1980s) is in a class by itself as an in-depth treatment of militarization; how it affects society and especially the individuals who are turned into soldiers to serve military purposes. I would rate it Absolutely Brilliant! Ive always been frustrated by the fact that it has never been released on DVD (or earlier, on VHS) nor is it shown anymore on broadcast TV. Doubly so because it was produced with the co-operation of Canadas National Film Board, which is supported by federal taxes. That makes me feel like I have a stake in the property I have seen it several times on various Canadian educational outlets; The Knowledge Network and TVOntario, primarily. But that was a long time ago. Anyway, parts of it are very relevant to the militarization of police forces in the US, so I went looking for it again today, and BINGO! - the entire series is available now on YouTube. You will never see a more insightful treatment of this subject matter, so try to put some time away to watch this, even if its only one episode a month for the next 7 months. You wont regret it, and some parts of it youll remember for the rest of your life. https://youtube/watch?v=tPnppCelvk0
