The shocking story about the NZ greyhound racing industry on the 3rd Degree current affairs program last night. But is HOW they dispose of the unwanted dogs really the problem? Even if EVERY dog was humanely euthanised and buried or cremated respectfully, it doesnt change one important fact. Thousands of dogs are being killed!!! And why? Because they arent economically viable in an industry where they are bred into existence only to perform. Is that fair? Would we do that to our beloved pet dogs? No matter how much they improve their welfare standards, there is simply no way to make this industry humane. And it would be simply impossible to re-home all the retired or under-performing dogs. There are too many. The only solution is to ban greyhound racing altogether. It is simply unfair to treat these animals as expendable objects for the sake of a so-called sport, and for human entertainment. Our trivial desire to gamble is not that important. Their lives are not that unimportant. You cant have humane bear-baiting, cock fighting, or dog fighting. You cant have humane bullfighting. You cant have humane rodeos. And you cant have humane greyhound racing! Its time to ban ALL animal exploitation. Its time for the world to evolve. Its time to go Vegan.
