The skies were hazy when we rose at dawn to walk up the thousand steps to Kalis Temple, above Dhulikhel in Nepal. We spoke of them - Caroline Adams, Vals dearest friend with whom she worked in the refugee camps in the 70s when Bangladesh was created - and Lola. Both no longer with us. We pictured them together somewhere. Val thought Cabbi would like Lola. She was the kind of young person Cabbi would have encouraged. Ha! I think Lola will be telling Cabbi what for. We sent up a message asking them to organize the weather for us - thats the least you could do, we said, two such powerful organizational women. And so - they did. And we saw the unbelievable sight - the floating disembodied peaks of the Himalayas, touched by the first rays of the sun. Transcendent. And then today by chance I came upon this picture, posted some time ago by Lolas friend Dave Ford. Lola looking out over Illimani. And I felt very comforted. Her spirit is strong in the high places.
