The small town of Utica holds their annual Burgoo Festival every year in the fall season. Burgoo is a slightly spicy stew, similar to Irish or Mulligan stew. Only the Burgoomeister knows the secret recipe for this pioneer stew, served outdoors at this one day festival. Here is a photo I took back in 2001 showing one of the opened cauldrons being stirred. In addition to this the little town has several blocks filled with arts and crafts and the turnout is usually very large. The fall colors and decorations add to the enjoyment. We try to attend once every few years. This year’s fest is this Sunday October 12th.
