The term A Three Dog Night is attributed to the Aborigines of Australia. It means that the night is so cold, you need to sleep with three dogs to keep warm. This phrase is also attributed to the Inuit of the northern regions, who would sleep with their dogs to keep warm. The phrase drifted through my mind as I looked around at the two furry bodies stretched out on chairs, a third sharing the sofa with me. Couldnt help smiling, as it occurred to me that Im actually having A Three Dog Night. The air outside is sharp and chill. A deep quiet has wrapped the house in a soft embrace and having three dogs with me in the night is a gift that cant be measured.
