The traditional method for presenting this information is like comparing apples to oranges. Here the class of, say 2017 is compared to the class of 2016. The comparison has nothing to do with how each graduating class improves of fails to improve. This is an institutional practice supported by the media who are to lazy to do their homework. The only way to determine if each graduating class is improving is to compare this years performance to last years.
