The u18s won 4-1 in a great performance against Durkar juniors yesterday. We were missing a few key players but the likes of Paul Custus and Liam Newbon stepped up to the mark and made their first proper starts of the season, both playing a good hour out of the 90 mins. The 1st goal came from leading goal scorer Dom Ballance (8 goals) after placing it round the keeper from a fantastic pass from captain Joe Hopkins. Durkar came close to an equaliser not long after, as they struck the bar from a 30 yard shot. Shortly before half time Durkar were gifted an equaliser after a mix-up between midfield and the defence. 2nd half After a strong team talk at half time, the players knew there jobs for this half, as it showed early on, when Joe Hopkins got us the lead with a volley from a corner. Joe Hopkins then got his second of the game after taking on three players and putting it passed the keeper on his bottom right corner. The game died down for 15 minutes after that until Jack Thomas (right back) went on a mad run from our 18 yard box all the way to the opposite corner flag, played the ball into the middle and Durkars centre back lobbed his own goal keeper. Jack claimed his first goal of the season but the manager was quick to disappoint him and had it down as an own goal. All in all a fantastic performance by the lads. Man of the match - Paul Custus
