You too can call him to say how you feel about the decision made about the Reef. BUT! These things are important: 1. The decision announced today was made by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Parks Authority, not the Minister. 2. But Minister Hunt actually pre-approved the dredging and dumping last year. 3. The dumping approved today is just a small piece of the puzzle. Personally, I oppose the dumping, the dredging, and the coal mining it came from, as well as the shipping of that coal through the Reef (which is why they are dredging; for the tankers to be able to get to the port). 4. Be polite to the person who takes your call. Its not directly their fault. Know your electorate so you can tell them where you are from. I vote and I am in favour of conservation! Protect our reef! The staffer thanked me for being polite and being properly informed rather than just ranting. I gently pointed out that the fact that people were being so emotional indicated the strength of their feelings about the reef. This is a heartbreaking, callous and destructive decision. All for coal. How could they? Its a desecration.
