The video below was produced in 2011 by the SPCA of East Texas. At the time, the SPCA was in negotiations with former City Manager, Mark McDaniel and we were instructed that the video must be taken down from the SPCA website in order to foster a “good partnership”. Today, there is new leadership for Tyler and they are truly working to find a solution to this situation. However, they are at least a year away. Studies have proven communities must launch a 3 pronged approach to humane animal services to successfully remedy these conditions. 1) Stepped Up Enforcement of Local Ordinances Requiring Responsible Dog Ownership 2) Local Spay/Neuter Programs 3) Local Rescue/Adoption Programs The SPCA of East Texas has now opened a low cost spay neuter clinic in Tyler – spaying and neutering 3544 dogs and cats in 2014. The SPCA of East Texas is rescuing and adopting hundreds of homeless pets off the streets – 420 adoptions last year – even without a facility. It is critical that we join together to remedy this situation and begin sooner than later. It is crucial that citizens let their elected officials and city leadership know this is important to taxpayers and should be made a matter of high importance. Deborah Dobbs
